Software I Cannot Live Without… Ever!!

I admit, I’m a software junkie. When I find a piece of software that I really like, I want to keep it up to date and always have the most recent version. In this day and age of rapidly changing computer technology, some software can become obsolete if you have a newer operating system for your computer, so my addition is not a bad thing (or so I keep telling myself!).
In my daily work activities, I use three programs without fail:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Adobe Professional
- Adobe Photoshop CS
I use Outlook for my work email, I use Word for document creation, and Excel for various reports. Microsoft Office is pretty powerful software. I tested and have been certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. Though I use it every single day, I don’t think I’ve even scratched the surface of what it can do. My Excel reports are very simple. I do use Word more extensively, but still not to the extend that I could. But, could I live without it at work? No. No way.
I absolutely LOVE Adobe Professional. Adobe Pro should not be confused with Adobe Reader. Reader is strictly for viewing PDF documents. Pro allows you to edit text and photos, combine files into one PDF, secure documents, and add signatures. I can fax and email direct from that program. I can take a PDF that someone else created, and edit it as needed. It is incredibly powerful software, that like Office, I know I’ve not used it to it’s full potential. Some day maybe! I couldn’t live without it though.
Lastly, I use Adobe Photoshop to edit pictures before I post them to our website or create an email blast. About 10 or so years ago I took a multi-media class at college and it was the most valuable class I think I’ve ever taken. I learned some fairly simple and easy tips for editing pictures that I used almost daily. I’ve used other photo editing software, but not with the ease and extent that I have with Adobe Photoshop.
I’ve been lucky to keep all three of these pieces of software up to date with the current versions and hope to continue that. I find that my skills improve because I’m learning to use new versions, which is always a good thing.
What other software do I use and love?
- Techsmith’s SnagIt. Great screen capture software. Very valuable.
- Techsmith’s Camtasia Studio. Video editing software. If you’re making training videos, this is simple software that even the inexperienced can use to create great videos.
- Stamps.com. Postage printing software. I can print individual stamps, or package labels with prepaid postage. No more trips to the post office.
