Fall is my favorite season and it’s finally arriving! The other seasons are tolerable, but autumn is special. Maybe, it’s the weather with crisp mornings and sunny afternoons. Or, perhaps it’s the excitement of a Friday night football game. How about a corn maze and hay ride, followed by apple cider and donuts with your friends? Fun stuff!
For me though, I think my absolute favorite thing about autumn is the decor. I looovvveee all the beautiful fall colors and designs! So cheerful, pleasant, and relaxing after a sweltering summer. And, it’s a nice transition before we get into the chill of winter. That said, here’s what I like to do to make my home pretty…..

Hey, what better way to welcome your guests than with a couple of bright yellow mums with a couple of cheerful pumpkins on your front porch, right?! Then, add some pretty fall leafy garland, a door wreath, and a stray scarecrow and you’ve got yourself a gorgeous design!
After your porch, the foyer in your home is the first thing your guests see. You can also add a few mini mums, some small pumpkins or gourds, and a few pretty fall candles and it’s perfect!
The dining table can be a real showpiece for your fall decor. Imagine a copper bowl or platter with a stunning centerpiece made of brown, orange, and gold leaves with acorns and berries. Include some cream, purple, yellow, and rust colored mini mums and a couple of long taper candles. Maybe, you can even add in some long pieces of straw or cat’s tails, and it will catch your guest’s eye immediately! Place the arrangement in the center of a pretty fall patterned table runner. Also, if you’re having a semi-formal dinner and you want to set out name cards for the settings, pick up a few mini pumpkins and use a Sharpie and write the guest names on the side. They will look adorable and the guest can take it home as a favor!
Keep your eyes open for some pretty copper or brass candle holders. One item I have is a mini brass jack-o-lantern that you can set a votive candle inside. I also found some copper leaf-shaped display plates. The larger one is about 4″ in diameter and the other is about 8″ in diameter. They are easily my favorite accent pieces! Also, I’ve got a few cute ceramic leaf or pumpkin knick knacks that I sit out.
In addition, I’ve added a few autumn designed throw pillows and even a throw that I toss on the couch. We don’t have a fireplace where we live now, but at our old house, I would put some orange lights up with a fall leaf garland with some sparkle on the leaves. It was so cute! I swear, I’m determined to find a clever place to use it here in our new home.
Get this, the real beauty of Autumn decor is that it takes you from September 1 through Thanksgiving! So, you’re not changing decorations for three months. All you need to do is add a few holiday specific items for Halloween and Thanksgiving. After that, we move into Christmas. Oh, don’t even get me started on that holiday decor! #craziness!
Whatever you decide to do, be sure that your own style and personality are reflected in what you choose to display. Like your regular household decor, the seasonal decor is about who you are and what you love. Don’t be afraid to try new things! Go through your decorations every couple of years and get rid of things you have had for a while and find something new. You’ll have a whole new fresh look!
Now, tell me….. what is YOUR favorite season for decorating? After Autumn, my favorite is Christmas. Do you decorate for the seasons and holidays? Tell me about your decor!
