The beauty industry is one of the biggest of our economy. Hair, makeup, skin care, tanning, nails, and much, much more. We all want to look our best right? I mean we all don’t wake up looking gorgeous. (well, I know I don’t! LOL) It takes a fair amount of effort for us to look good!! Add to that the unrelenting aging process (that I’m personally experiencing thankyouverymuch LOL). So what do we do to look our best? We buy products! Lots and lots of products. Hair color, mousse, gel, hair spray, anti-frizz oil, conditioner, hair extensions, foundation, bronzer, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, highlighter, powder, lash extensions, self-tanners, moisturizers, masks, anti-wrinkle creams, anti-aging creams, exfoliating creams, depilatory creams, manicures, pedicures… you name it, we use it.
So how do we figure out which products to use? We see TV ads, magazine ads, online ads. Our friends tell us their favorite products, and their least favorite products (when they don’t have the desired effect! LOL). We usually end up spending a lot of money on stuff we use once or maybe twice and then end up not liking. Once in a while you get one product that is absolutely fantastic and ends up being the holy grail… just in time for it to be discontinued. Been there, done that.Well, I have some tried and true products that aren’t going anywhere. And they are the BOMB!
Disclaimer: Several of these are Avon products, and I’m an Avon Representative. That said…. I’ve personally tried all of these products and regardless of the fact that I’m a rep, I would still recommend them. Please note that I’ve included affiliate links for each of the products.
I have long very thick hair and managing it can be a real challenge… like you have NO idea how much of a challenge! About 10 years ago I discovered flat irons, which have been a God send. I was also told to protect my hair from the heat of the iron with an anti-frizz serum. Recently I switched to a new hair stylist and she introduced me to the most fabulous product! It helps protect my hair, it helps dry my hair, and it helps with frizz and fly-away hair. Redken Diamond Oil Glow Dry… and it’s PINK! Woot! You put a squirt in your hand and rub it in your damp hair prior to drying, and again after styling. I smells divine and it does wonders for my hair. It’s easily the best hair product I have ever used… and I actually recommended this same product in another post. Read that here.
A good body lotion is key to looking and feeling like a million bucks. I just don’t want to pay a million bucks for it! Avon’s Skin-So-Soft Gelled Body Oil is superb. They have it in multiple scents… my favorite is the Soft and Sensual. It really hydrates the skin and the gel makes it glide on smoothly while the oil makes it long-lasting. It’s not at all greasy and the scent is glorious. It’s perfect for year round too, especially in the winter when the dry air can be really harsh on our skin. I use it every.single.day. and I love, love, love it!!
A good foundation is the base for a gorgeous look. You want a formula that will work great with your skin, enhancing your natural beauty. And you need a selection of shades that will match your skin tone. You don’t want to look pasty like a china doll, but you don’t want to look orangey… like an Ooompa Loompa…LOL Something else to keep in mind is the right foundation for what you’re looking for. Younger skin can do a more sheer, lighter foundation. Those of us with (ahem)… aging…. skin, need fuller coverage, but not caked on. After trying quite a few foundations, my absolute favorite is Avon’s True Color Flawless Liquid Foundation. With 21 shakes to choose from, I can guarantee there is one to match your skin tone. It goes on smoothly, and it you don’t even know it’s there! It’s a nice medium coverage that evens out your skin tone and provides a fantastic base for the rest of your look!
How do you get that fantastic foundation on your face? Some use their fingertips, some use beauty blenders, some use brushes. I use makeup sponge wedges. They’re perfect. I use Victoria Vogue Euro Egg Makeup Applicators. They are a perfect weight and perfect firmness for applying foundation. They fit beautifully in your hand and give you tons of control. I’ve been using them for years and won’t use anything else.
A few years ago I was noticing the trend with the female movie stars of very light concealer under their eyes, blended out and I thought it was amazing looking. That look has moved toward the contouring and highlighting that many do today. Well, I searched long and hard to find the perfect powder concealer to use under my eyes to get that look and just wasn’t finding it. Until a makeup artist friend told me about e.l.f.’s HD Under eye Concealer Setting Powder. It’s a very fine white powder. I put on a very light cream under eye concealer, and then a very light layer of the setting powder, blending it out. It’s absolutely fantastic and the look it gives is spectacular!
Lipstick is the finishing touch on the canvas of your face. A great color will set every thing off. BUT… before you can put that great color on, you need good healthy lips. How do you get those? Good old Chapstick! LOL and now just the average ordinary Chapstick… you need Medicated Chapstick. I thin layer under your lipstick… or any time for that matter, keeps your lips healthy and hydrated. It’s perfect for winter too. We all tend to get chapped lips during the winter months. When you glide it on, you’ll feel this fantastic tingling… that’s the medication doing it’s thing to heal your lips! It keep your lips soft and kissable! That’s what it’s all about right?? The kisses!
So there you go! Give these products a try… I promise you won’t be sorry! Well… you will be sorry if you DON’T try them! LOL Let me know how they work out for you!!
And, tell me what your favorite beauty products are! I’m ALWAYS trying something new!! Let me know in the comments!!
